Hal Bond, Deputy Arbiter

Hal Bond

Arbiter

Hal Bond is Canada’s top ranked International Arbiter. Since running his first FIDE Norm tournament in 2002, he has worked as a Principal Arbiter at more FIDE World Championship events than anyone in Canadian history. Hal was also a Principal in the Continental Youth events in Canada from 2010-2019, as well as numerous national and international events including the 2022 CYCC and Canadian Open in Hamilton.

From 1986 – 1990, Hal served as FIDE Counsellor for Delegates John Prentice and Nathan Divinsky. Hal attended the FIDE Congresses from 2008 – 2020 as Canada’s FIDE Delegate. Hal served on the Planning and Development Commission from 2008-2022 and was re-elected as Deputy President of the Commonwealth Chess Association at the Chennai Olympiad.

Throughout his chess career, Hal has enjoyed teaching Arbiters, future chess champions and future chess leaders

Omar Shah, Arbiter

Arbiter

Omar has over 20 years experience in teaching chess to children at varies schools, private (Toronto French School, Royal St. George’s, Bond Academy to name a few), Montessori Schools and most TDSB schools.

During his chess career he peaked at an Expert’s strength. On rare occasions he would sit at a board to test his skills set. Lately he’s been pursuing his FIDE IA (International Arbiter) title which he should attain soon.

Abdul Rahman El Habboub Arbiter

Abdul is a National Arbiter with over 5 years of experience as an arbiter and organizer of chess tournaments for adults and kids. Abdul started his chess career in Lebanon. He successfully organized the Lebanese Schools Championship in 2019. He was also a member of the arbiters team for the 2020 Lebanese National Championship Qualifications.

Abdul is an expert using the pairing system, especially Swiss Manager. He speaks English, French, and Arabic. He will attain soon his FIDE Arbiter title.

Brian Clarke, Arbiter

Arbiter

Brian has over thirty years experience as an arbiter and tournament organizer. He is a long-time member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Chess Club, having served as the club president, past president and treasurer numerous times. He has conducted chess lectures on several occasions. Brian also serves as the Ontario Chess Association Executive Vice-President and as the Regional Vice-President for the Southwestern Ontario Chess League. Brian holds a National Arbiter title and is expecting to obtain his FIDE Arbiter title in the near future.
